5. Energy regions in the Alps
Situation
In the past a few individual regions in the Alpine Space developed into self-sufficient energy regions. These examples present a potential for experience that should be used. The chance to become energy self-sufficient is not very widely known. This means that decision makers and stake holders should be given the chance to make themselves known to each other and to compare notes.
Content
The content of this project is the targeted relaying and dissemination of experience from the energy regions. To do this there will be excursions to the relevant regions and an exchange of experts will be organised.
Relation to the Programme
Priority 3 – Environment and risk prevention.
When the regions
work together and present the best practice examples in relation to the
use of natural and renewable resources, local energy independence will
be stimulated. There will be an increase of co-operations in the area
of environment protection brought about by the active management of
energy. In addition, a contribution will be made to integrated
approaches in the planning phase and management for the protection of
the natural resources and cultural landscape.
What it means to the Alpine Space
As mentioned in the previous work packages, it is of crucial importance that the Alpine Space become less dependant of energy imports.
What it means trans-nationally
Relation to the Lisbon and Gothenburg Objectives
Innovation
Generally, energy self sufficiency for towns or regions is an innovative challenge. It is obvious that the basic approach should be organised using best practice examples. With this method, innovative approaches in the regions can be mediated efficiently and the exchange of know how made possible.
Advantages for SME’s
With the efforts for increased energy self sufficiency, investments will be increased and it is inevitable that this will be an advantage for the SME‘s.
